Throughout the civil engineering and construction industries, Engineering surveys provide valuable information for quality control purposes, conformity checks and mapping for further construction (extension work).

Measured Building Surveys

Building surveys are now considered essential before the extension or renovation of a structure. An internal survey provides the architect / engineer / client with an as-built plan, detailing the existing layout of the structure. From this data, architects, Interior architects and engineers have the required information to work from. This technique of surveying is also used regularly for internal boundary divisions, primarily between apartments, but also semi attached dwellings.

Output options:
  • 2D Plan “dwg” format
  • Level of data acquisition dependant on clients requirements, i.e. Light fixture, Socket location
  • CSV listing available containing room surface areas (IPMS)
  • Building profiles available upon request

 Services / Utility Surveys

Output options:
  • 2D Plan “dwg” and CSV data listing formats
  • Overhead power and telephone cables, including clearance and slack heights
  • Underground Services, including waste water system, storm water systems and open drainage surveys (Ditch)
  • Pipe size, Pipe type , Fall percentage, Manhole surveys
  • Elevation data reattached to required Datum

The accurate mapping of both underground and over ground utilities is often requested before major construction and civil works. This is to efficiently cut / divert / modify / join the necessary services before they become an issue during the construction phase. Another application is the mapping of storm water drainage systems to run worst case simulations for urban areas.

Facade / Elevation Surveys

Elevation surveys is the taking of measurements of an object/structure in the vertical plain. This technique is used primarily by architects for visualisation of future extension work and by heritage associations who wish to record architectural features of a structure. This type of survey has three different levels of detail. From vector wire frame to 3D point clouds. KGSS have undertaken elevation surveys on simple bungalows to complicated 17th century Churches.

  • Different levels of data acquisition, i.e. Wireframe, PointClouds
  • Elevation reattachment: IG, ITM or Local
  • Degree and area of survey based on client requirements

Conformity Surveys

Output options:
  • Quick Immobilisation
  • Onsite post processing available to limit delay
  • Fixed target and/or remote sensing techniques
  • Addition of utility survey to mapping
  • Listing of points (.csv or .txt)

During different stages of a civil / construction project, it is now common place that a conformity survey is undertaken after the completion a certain stage. KGSS provides conformity surveys for clients who wish to verify the « Built VS. Design » of their project during the construction period. This may include, foundation / piling work, Steel work installations and finished form work. Results of such surveys are published in a quick manner so that works may continue without delay.

Setting-Out Solutions

At KGSS we have many years of experience at setting out, from large scale civil works to small boundary issues. We have undertaken setting out works on large scale piling platforms, Motorway bridges, Large Steel work sections and urban Tram Lines. Such projects must have stringent quality control measures, we aim to install these structures in order to ensure transparency and understanding between the client, the clients onsite representative and our surveyors.
